Is the course structure in Top-B schools practical enough ?

What do you expect form a Top- B school in 2021? Or more broadly , what do you expect from a professional course such as an MBA?

So many questions , right ! Let's try to break it down into segments to answer these questions.

What is a professional Course?

Lets begin with understanding that what is a professional course. A professional course is one that provides you with practical skills, making you job-ready at the completion of the course. Basically a course which will make you industry ready by imparting the skills which you require to kick start your work life and majority of us also understand the same.

Our expectations from the course

The understanding of the course shape our expectations form the course and hence we approach a professional course with a hope of becoming expert in industry demand skills. We also expect the course structure to contain more of a practical knowledge and very less theoretical information. But being a 2021 MBA student , I was quite disappointed with all what I have been taught in my first year of college.

But why? what were my expectations ? what went wrong?

Entering into college is an experience in itself as you suddenly get exposed to a plethora of things. You meet people and discover more about people, hobbies, and industry demanded skills. You proceed further and understand the skills appropriate and significant to your field of study. As soon as you get to know about those, you wish to acquire them and rather expect your college to include it in your course structures. But pity me ! it does not go that way for me .

Skills and courses which I was expecting ?

From all the information that I gained by discussing with my peers , mentors , doing my own research and also stalking LinkedIn many profiles :) I listed down the following courses or skills:

  • Video editing in open shop video editor

  • Leaning Audacity ( audio editing app)

  • A video editing course ( in general)

  • Course on Ms excel , Ms Word and Ms PowerPoint

  • Photo editing and animation

Genuinely , I feel in this digital virtual era , having the knowledge of video editing, audio editing or UI and UX design and Ms excel as well as Ms PowerPoint is must ( especially , if you are an MBA student). Indian education system has come a long way and have great potential for improvement , not only in schools but also in colleges ( especially those which are offering professional courses). I believe that still B- schools have a lot to include in their course structure to enrich students with many other

required skills.
